Honey Sesame Chicken

大家好!

I made some honey sesame chicken a couple days ago. I adapted the recipe from eatgood4life. I love the recipes that she posts. They're mainly healthy and delicious.

I decided to make this because I need to work more on my culinary skills and not my baking skills. Meaning, I bake more than I cook. This was my attempt and cooking more. Anyway, I'm on a 6 week winter break, so I might as well do something and learn something useful. Be aware that I'll be posting a lot more frequently now (possibly twice a day, but not everyday), especially during this holiday season. I have at least a few more recipes and more food reviews.
This chicken is slow cooked and the sauce is delicious. My siblings love the sauce and add it to their rice. The chicken is tender and shreds but it's still good. I had to adapt the recipe because I didn't have all the ingredients. I used oyster sauce instead of ketchup. I also use sesame oil instead of olive oil (I wanted more of a sesame flavor!).

So, here's the recipe. It should serve 6.

Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs chicken breast
  • 1 onion, diced (you can use 1/2 if you don't like onion much)
  • 2 garlic cloves, chopped
  • 3/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup oyster sauce
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 3 tsp corn starch
  • 1/4 cup water
  • sesame seeds (to garnish)
Directions:
  1. Place the chicken in the slow cooker. Place the diced onions along with it, scattered around the chicken.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix together the garlic, honey, oyster sauce, soy sauce and sesame oil. Pour the sauce over the chicken. Cover and cook it on high for 3 hours or until the chicken is cooked.
  3. Once the chicken is done, remove the chicken and shred or cut the chicken into pieces.
  4. Pour the sauce from the slow cooker into a sauce pan. Then, mix together the corn starch and water. Pour the corn starch mixture into the sauce mixture and heat and boil until the sauce thickens.
  5. Add in the chicken.
  6. Serve with rice.

My family loves this chicken. I hope your family and friends enjoy it too.
